What is SEO?

SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” In simple terms, it means the process of improving your site to increase its visibility for relevant searches. The better visibility your pages have in search results, the more likely you are to garner attention and attract prospective and existing candidates to your pages.

What are we, Teamtailor, doing to improve our customers SEO?

We make sure the platform and the semantics always stay on top with best practices in SEO, speed, security, mobile optimization, and the possibility of adding the site to the Google Search Console.

  • CNAME: We allow you to set up a CNAME since the Company name domain increases the trust and thereby the ranking

  • HTTPS: All traffic is protected with HTTPS, and secure traffic gives pages a higher ranking

  • Mobile: Career site, pages, job ads, the application process, etc. all work well on mobile devices, which gives a higher ranking

  • Speed: We always strive to decrease loading times

What can you, as a customer, do yourself?

A content strategy focuses on the planning, creation, delivery, and governance of content. Content not only includes the words on the page but also the images and multimedia that are used. Ensuring that you have useful and usable content, that is well structured, and easily found is vital to improving the user experience of a website.

  • Use relevant keywords

If you want your site to rank well for relevant, intent-driven keywords and earn healthy organic traffic, understanding how to conduct keyword research and recognizing which keywords are worth your focus is essential.

  • Use semantic elements

Semantic HTML refers to syntax that makes the HTML more comprehensible by better defining the different sections and layout of web pages. It makes web pages more informative and adaptable, allowing browsers and search engines to better interpret content.

SEO-specific Settings in Teamtailor:

  1. Start by heading over to Content in the top navigation. This will take you to your content editor.

  2. Within each of these pages, have a look through the SEO settings by following these steps:

  • Click on the three dots and then click on Settings

  • Then click on the SEO -option on the left-hand side, and make sure that you have relevant content in the:

    • Title

    • Description (will be used as Meta description for the page)

    • Noindex (If checked, this page will not appear in search engines)

    • Permanent redirect (Use a 301-redirect to permanently redirect this page to a different URL)

3. For unique Pages that you might have created, you can also edit with the URL in Page → Settings → General:

A well-crafted URL provides both humans and search engines with an easy-to-understand indication of what the destination page will be about. While using a URL that includes keywords can improve your site’s search visibility, URLs themselves generally do not have a major impact on a page’s ability to rank. So, while it’s worth thinking about, don’t create otherwise un-useful URLs simply to include a keyword in them.

Common SEO issues that can be avoided

  • Images over 100KB - Page speed is extremely important for users and SEO and often large resources such as images are one of the most common issues that slow down web pages. Therefore, try to work with images of a smaller size.

  • Duplicate page titles - It's really important to have distinct and unique page titles for every page. If every page has the same page title, then it can make it more challenging for users and search engines to understand one page from another.

  • Page title length - SEO best practice suggests that page titles should be between 30-60 characters. Anything longer or shorter can affect your SEO Score.

  • H1 length - similarly, it is recommended that your headers are not longer than 70 characters for best practice.

  • Missing Alt attribute - in Teamtailor, you have the option to add an Alt image description to your images. Ensure that this is done for each image to avoid this issue.

  • Meta description length and duplicates - these should always be unique, and ideally between 70-155 characters.
