Using a custom domain can help strengthen your brand recognition and improve your SEO (search engine optimization). It helps you gain greater control over your online identity and communication.
Setup
Using a custom domain involves both your DNS provider and Teamtailor. Follow the steps below to set this up.
If you'd like to use your Teamtailor career site as your main website, see further instructions here.
1. Decide the subdomain you wish to use
Start by selecting the domain you want to use for your career site. This could for eg. be careers.yourcompany.com or jobs.yourcompany.com, but remember only subdomains are supported.
Once you've decided, head to your DNS provider (where your domain settings are managed). Set up a CNAME record for your chosen subdomain and point it to the unique entry generated under Settings → Content → Domain & SSL.
2. Prepare your DNS
Sign in to your account at your Domain host platform.
In your DNS provider, locate the page for updating your domain's DNS records. The page might be called something like DNS Management, Name Server Management, or Advanced Settings.
Add a CNAME record pointing to the generated CNAME entry presented in the Teamtailor platform under Settings → Content → Domain & SSL*
Add a TXT record for our root domain with the generated TXT entry presented in the Teamtailor platform under Settings → Content → Domain & SSL**
Save your changes and wait until they take effect.
* Note that ext is not a placeholder for "example", you must use the exact value presented. In this example, the value is 3m0tzii6rjqw8.ext.teamtailor.com. Always use the specific entry listed in your account. You can find more information about data processing regions here.
** Ensure that the whole entry is added, including teamtailor
3. Enter your domain in Teamtailor
When the CNAME setup is completed in your DNS provider, log in to Teamtailor and go to Settings → Content → Domain & SSL. Enter the chosen domain name and click Save to complete the setup of your own domain.
All custom domains are automatically secured with SSL. This will ensure all traffic is served over HTTPS providing a secure connection on your career site.
Note that after you’ve verified the domain, there may be a slight delay before your career site is secured with SSL.
Troubleshooting
Could not validate domain
If your domain already uses CAA (Certification Authority Authorization) records, you need to make sure Certainly is allowed to generate SSL certificates for your domain. CAA records are configured with your DNS provider. Add the following CAA record to allow certainly.com to issue certificates for your root domain:
0 issue "certainly.com"
If you don’t currently have any CAA records configured for your domain, you can skip this step.
If you’re unsure how to manage CAA records, contact your DNS provider’s support team. You can use https://caatest.co.uk to verify that your CAA record is configured correctly. Once everything looks good, click the Try again button under Settings → Content → Domain & SSL in Teamtailor.
If your domain requires CAA records but your DNS provider does not support them, you have two options:
Contact your DNS provider and ask whether they can help configure CAA records for your domain.
Alternatively, you can order and generate your own SSL certificate. Your DNS provider will likely be able to help you with this. Once generated, send the certificate to us at support@teamtailor.com.
Once your custom domain has been set up, you will also be able to see location data on your career site analytics page.
CNAME lookup failed
Please check that the DNS settings at your web host are pointing to your unique CNAME entry found in your Teamtailor account. You can check which entry your CNAME is pointing to with a DNS record checker, like MXToolbox or Digwebinterface.
If you are not sure how to check and verify that, please contact your web host’s support for help.
TXT lookup failed
Please check that the TXT record has been added correctly to the root domain yourcompany.com and not career.yourcompany.com.
The TXT entry that needs to be added is found under TXT record Settings → Content → Domain & SSL.
Change / Remove domain
If you switch to a new custom domain or remove your existing one, any previously shared links will stop working. When this happens, you have two options:
Set up a redirect via your DNS provider:
Recommended if you have many jobs currently published. A redirect ensures old links automatically forward to your new domain.Manually update or replace links:
If you only have a few jobs published, it may be easier to manually update the shared links and resend any affected meeting invites.
Job board promotions
Links used in promotions for job boards will also be affected when the domain changes/is removed.
Always Included Job Boards can take up to 72 hours to receive the updated feed and republish your ads with the correct links.
Other job board promotions must be updated manually by editing the promotion under the Promote tab of the job in question.
Social Media Ads purchased through Teamtailor are managed by our Promote team. You can reach them at promote@teamtailor.com.
