When a candidate applies with a resume, or you upload one to a candidate profile, Teamtailor can extract information from the resume and use it to fill in the candidate's details.
In Settings → Data & privacy → Resume parsing, you can choose how resumes are parsed. You need admin access to change these settings.
Choose a resume parser
Choose the parser that best suits your organization's needs and data processing preferences. Each option extracts different information from resumes and handles data differently.
Riminder (being phased out)
Riminder is the resume parser previously used by Teamtailor. It's available until November 21, 2026.
If your account is still using Riminder on this date, it will automatically switch to OpenAI Standard unless you've selected another option.
OpenAI Standard (recommended)
Uses OpenAI to extract information from resumes and fill in candidate details. It supports most resume layouts and languages.
Fills in: Name, email, phone number, location, profile picture, LinkedIn URL, and other social profiles, such as GitHub and X.
Data processing: Resumes are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI is one of Teamtailor's subprocessors and doesn't use this data to train its models.
Basic (no AI)
Uses pattern matching to find contact information in resumes. Processing takes place within Teamtailor without using AI.
Fills in: Email, phone number, profile picture, and LinkedIn URL.
Supported formats: Works best with text-based PDF and Word files. Scanned resumes and images may not provide usable text.
Data processing: Resumes aren't sent to an AI provider or external parsing provider.
Information extracted by each parser
The information extracted depends on which parser is active. The table below compares the fields filled in by each option.

FAQ
Which parser should I choose?
Choose the option that best suits your organization's data processing preferences.
OpenAI Standard: Choose this option if you're comfortable with resumes being processed by an AI provider and want more candidate information to be filled in automatically.
Basic (no AI): Choose this option if you don't want resumes processed by an AI provider. It extracts fewer fields, so you may need to add more candidate information manually.
You can change your selection at any time. If you don't select another option before November 21, 2026, accounts still using Riminder will automatically switch to OpenAI Standard.
What if my account has Co-pilot?
If your account has Co-pilot, its advanced resume parser is used instead of the selected parser. The options on the Resume parsing settings page will be greyed out.
Co-pilot extracts additional information, including work history, education, skills, languages, and a summary. Having OpenAI Standard selected on this page doesn't activate Co-pilot.
What does Active parser mean?
The Active parser section at the top under Settings → Data & Privacy → Resume parsing shows which parser is currently being used to process resumes in your account.
If you select OpenAI Standard before November 21, 2026, Riminder may still appear as the active parser until the transition date. Your selected option and the active parser can therefore differ during this period.
Does OpenAI use our candidates data to train its models?
No. Teamtailor uses OpenAI's API under a Data Processing Agreement, and data submitted through the API isn't used to train OpenAI's models.
Where is the data processed?
Data processing and storage locations depend on your Teamtailor region:
EU: Data is stored in Europe.
US: Data is stored in the United States.
APAC: Data is stored in Australia and processed in the United States.
For more information, visit the Teamtailor Trust Center.
Can I turn off resume parsing completely?
No, resume parsing can't be turned off completely. However, you can select Basic (no AI) to keep resume parsing within Teamtailor without using an AI provider or an external parsing provider.
