With conditional logic, you can tailor both the flow and the content so candidates and users only see the relevant questions and fields.
Automatically reveal questions or fields based on previous inputs, creating a smoother experience from start to finish.
How it works
Instead of presenting all questions or fields upfront, conditional logic helps you guide the candidates or users step by step.
For example, let’s say you ask a candidate "Are you available to start immediately?" with options Yes or No in the application form.
If the candidate answers No, a follow-up question appears: "What is your earliest available start date?"
If they answer Yes, the follow-up question stays hidden.
This way, the form adapts dynamically to their answers, keeping it relevant and efficient.
Supported questions and fields
The question or field requesting additional information can be of any type. However, the deciding question or field must be one of the following types:
Questions used in a Job application form or Questionnaire.
Yes / No
Choice
Fields used in a Job offer template, Survey, Requisition form, or Onboarding form.
Single choice

This feature is currently available in the following parts of Teamtailor:
Questions in the Job application form
Questions in a Questionnaire
Fields in a Job offer template
Questions in Survey
Fields in the Requisition form
Fields in an Onboarding form
Job application form
To use conditional logic in the application form, begin by adding your questions in the Application step of the job editor. You can choose from existing questions or create new ones. Then, click the three dots on the question you want to use as a follow-up and enable Use conditional logic.
From there, select the question it should depend on and specify which answer the candidate must give for it to appear. Only answers from a Yes / No or Choice question will be available to choose from. The follow-up question will only be shown when those conditions are met.
Note that questions will appear in the order they are added. For example, if a question is added between the main question and a conditional question, it will be displayed in that same order to the candidate.
Questionnaire
You can apply conditional logic when creating a questionnaire in a message sent to a candidate. Open the Messages tab on the candidate’s card, attach your questions to the message, and click the three dots next to the question that should remain hidden. Enable Use conditional logic and then specify an answer from a Yes / No or Choice question required for the question to appear.
Note that questions will appear in the order they are added. For example, if a question is added between the main question and a conditional question, it will be displayed in that same order to the candidate.
Job offer template
When using our Job offer add-on feature, conditional logic can be found when setting up a job offer template. In the Custom fields section, you will be able to reveal any field based on a selected option from a Single choice field.
Then, when a user creates a job offer from this template, the conditional field will be shown if the selected option meets the defined condition.
Surveys
When using our Surveys add-on feature, the option to apply conditional logic becomes available as soon as you add a Single choice survey question. This field type serves as the basis for any follow-up questions in the survey.
Once the candidate fills out the survey, the conditional field will appear if they select the specified option.
Requisitions
When using our Requisitions add-on feature, conditional logic can be found in the requisitions form. In the Additional fields section, you will be able to reveal any field based on a selected option from a Single choice field.
The conditional field will be shown when a user fills out a requisition form, as long as the selected option meets the defined condition.
Onboarding form
The conditional logic can be found when using our Onboardings add-on feature. When setting up forms, you will be able to reveal a field based on a selected option from a Single choice field.
The conditional field will appear when the new hire fills out the form if they select the specified option.
Link multiple questions/fields
You can attach multiple questions or fields to a single option to capture all relevant details. As soon as the candidate or user selects that option, all associated conditional questions or fields will appear at once.
You can also create a chain of questions so that additional information is asked based on a specific answer in the follow-up question.
Here's an example of how the flow could look for the candidate answering the questions in the application form:
We are all about the candidate experience! Be mindful not to overwhelm them with too many unexpected additional questions.
